What is Anthropology and how does it differ from Digital Anthropology?

Anthropology is the study of what makes us human. Anthropology is the scientific study of humankind, dealing with human behavior, human biology, culture, society, linguistics,  present and past, and early human species. There are four major areas of anthropology: archeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. Archaeologists study human culture by analyzing what humans make. They carefully remove pottery and tools from the ground, map homes, landfills, and landfill locations to learn about people’s daily lives. They also analyze human bones and teeth to get information about people’s diets and the illnesses they are suffering from. Biological anthropologists are trying to understand how humans adapt to different environments, the causes of illness and premature death, and how humans have evolved from other animals. To do this, they study humans (living and dead), other primates such as monkeys and apes, and fossils. Socio-cultural anthropologists are studying how people in different places live and understand the world around them. They want to know what people think is important and what rules they have set to deal with each other. Even within a country or society, people may have different opinions about how to speak, dress, eat, or treat others. Anthropological linguists are studying many ways in which people around the world can communicate. They are interested in how language relates to how we see the world and how we interact. This means exploring how languages work in different ways and how they change over time. It also means seeing what we believe in language and communication, and how we use it in our lives.

Recently there has been a newer form of anthropology called Digital Anthropology. Digital Anthropology focuses on how technology makes us a different human. Digital Anthropology is the study of relationships between humans and digital technology. There are a lot of ways to see how technology has an impact on humans. Technology has impacts on mental health, physical behaviors, language, cultures, and much more. Digital interests me because I have grown up with technology my whole life and I have experienced a lot of these occurrences first hand. I am particularly interested in how certain platforms and social media apps can influence someone.
