Structures and Environment Created in Online Gaming World

I enjoyed reading the 4 books over Thanksgiving and Winter breaks. Would highly recommend them if you haven’t realdy read them. And by the way, I did not like the movie representation of the book “Ready Player One”!

Let’s get back to the deeper analysis that I did with Dr. Christine Reyna during my last semester. The online gaming world creates a different type of environment and has a unique structure that enables the creation and dissemination of stereotypes and prejudices. Some of the factors that contribute to this unique environment include anonymity; ability to easily create multiple online identities; need to maintain or improve status while playing; feeling of individual identity, self-worth, and self-esteem; and a strong desire for group identity/tribalism. My next few blogs go deeper into each of these and includes  more analysis on how each of these might contribute to the perpetuation of stereotypes and prejudice.
