South Africa Exchange Program

I was selected to be part of an exchange program with students from Johannesburg and Capetown in South Africa (SA). I used this opportunity to gather information about how students in SA interact digitally, use digital media in the townships and how technology has impacted the lives of people living in SA.

During the middle of March, I did an exchange program where I went to Capetown and stayed with a host family for about 7 days. I found this whole experience very enriching and interesting. During my stay, I visited many different museums and engulfed myself with the culture around me. Learning about apartheid is interesting, but getting the experience to truly see where it happened is shocking. I found that the wealth gap was clear as day and was interesting to observe over the duration of my stay. My host family was very kind and showed me the proper warmth my own family does. They made me feel like home especially while I was sick towards the end. The parallels to my culture at home and the culture of my host family was fascinating.
